Monkeys in Benin – Association ATO

About This Project

logo-Ato-rondThe ATO Programme for primates in Benin

In Benin, monkeys (white-throated guenon, colobus, patas, vervet and mona monkeys…) are often hunted or captured for the pet trade. Until recently, there was no structure available to take care of any injured, orphaned or confiscated animals…
In 2014, the French charity ATO set up Benin’s first Primate Conservation Centre. Its principal objective is to take in monkeys that have been captured illegally and kept in very poor conditions. The charity is also working to raise awareness of the need to respect and protect primates, and supporting the sustainable development of communities in Benin.
La Barben and Ecofaune have been supporting this charity since 2015.
